The Surfzone Coastal Oil Pathways Experiment (SCOPE) is\u00a0a large\u00a0nearshore field experiment being executed on a public beach in the Florida panhandle between Pensacola and Destin. \u00a0Our scientists are using drifters, dye, helicopters, drones, and various oceanographic and atmospheric sensors. \u00a0Needless to say, we draw attention from the locals. \u00a0For this reason, as well as the need to educate the general public about our research, we invited the media to come learn about this project.<\/span><\/p>\n

On our first day of drifter deployment, we were visited by local ABC station WEAR, who interviewed SCOPE lead scientists, Ad Reniers and Jamie McMahan. \u00a0 Resulting press<\/em>: \u00a0http:\/\/carthe.org\/bp-oil-spill-study\/<\/a><\/p>\n

A week into the experiment,\u00a0December 10th, we hosted a SCOPE Media Day, featuring GoMRI research board member Chuck Wilson, CARTHE director Tamay Ozgokmen, SCOPE lead scientists Ad Reniers and Jamie McMahan, TV host Gary Finch,\u00a0County Park Manager James Puckett, and local sheriffs. \u00a0Several local media programs attended, listened as our scientists explained the elaborate experiment in progress, and shared the interviews with their audience! \u00a0CARTHE is passionate about sharing our research with the world \u00a0so we appreciate the individuals that spent the day with us and took time to communicate\u00a0this information to the public.<\/p>\n
