{"id":744,"date":"2016-09-12T13:21:54","date_gmt":"2016-09-12T17:21:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/carthe.org\/blog\/?p=744"},"modified":"2018-09-21T12:53:42","modified_gmt":"2018-09-21T16:53:42","slug":"bay-drift","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/carthe.org\/blog\/bay-drift\/","title":{"rendered":"Bay Drift Study hits Biscayne Bay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The CARTHE team of world renown scientists is known for our\u00a0ground breaking ocean current research in the Gulf of Mexico and the new technology we have developed to make these breakthroughs. \u00a0So when <a href=\"http:\/\/vizcaya.org\">Vizcaya Museum &amp; Gardens<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.frostscience.org\/\">Frost Museum of Science<\/a> in Miami, FL wanted to know where the trash they find in their mangroves or on the beaches was coming from, they turned to CARTHE, the ocean current transport experts. \u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-754 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/carthe.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/20160831_091614-300x225.jpeg\" alt=\"20160831_091614\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/carthe.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/20160831_091614-300x225.jpeg 300w, http:\/\/carthe.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/20160831_091614-768x576.jpeg 768w, http:\/\/carthe.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/20160831_091614-1024x768.jpeg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Unfortunately, there is little know about the currents in Biscayne Bay. \u00a0It is under funded and under studied and changes like the Port of Miami dredging project and sea level rise alter the circulation patterns so what <em>was<\/em> known may not hold true anymore.<\/p>\n<p>The University of Miami Rosenstiel School-based CARTHE team joined forces with Vizcaya and Frost Science and create the year long\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/carthe.org\/baydrift\">Biscayne Bay Drift Card study<\/a> (BayDrift). The goal of the project is to understand\u00a0our local ocean currents and how trash and other pollutants are transported.
